Food on my thoughts

‘A foodie is a person who has an ardent or refined interest in food and alcoholic beverages. A foodie seeks new food experiences as a hobby rather than simply eating out of convenience or hunger.’

Right from the emergence of food related sites, blogs and food ordering applications, the Food industry is at its peak. The variety, assortment and diversity in the food line-up in the modern times is an example of the shift from ‘Eat to live’ to ‘Live to eat’.

Being a food enthusiast, I have had the pleasure of enjoying the simplest Vada Pav of Thane to the giant burgers of Mumbai and the roadside Kheeri Kaleji of Mumbra to the juiciest seekh and tikka of Mumbai.

Here are some of my favourite food addas for the most mouthwatering, toothsome and economical food joints.

  • Howra

Located in Breach Candy, Mumbai is the to-go place for giant kickass burgers. Especially noteworthy are the ‘Big Daddy’, the ‘Grand Daddy’ and the ‘God Father’. Plus sized burgers with huge patties, caramelized onions, cheese and fries on the side, the perfect sin. Deep fried Oreos for desert are superb.

  • Al Rehmani

Located at the cross section of J.J Hospital Chowk, Byculla is the ultimate destination for the best of beef and chicken Seekh and Paratha in Mumbai. Delicious Seekh-Paratha with salad and green dipping chutney. There can never be only one-time visit to this place.

  • Sarvi

Located in Nagpada, Mumbai is one of the oldest restaurants in Mumbai. The structure of the restaurant will convey its age very well but the taste of the Seekh Kebabs reflects its age and experience blended to be the perfect recipe.

  • Zaika Darbar

Located on Grant Road, Mumbai might not be the very best in ambiance but trumps any other joint with its Seekh Kebab in fresh cream, Malai Tikka in fresh cream and laccha paratha. Seekh in fresh cream is extremely rich and best to team it up with hot laccha parathas.

  • Tawakkal and Shalimar Sweets

Located in the heart of Bhendi Bazar, Byculla is the best place to go for desserts. Try everything, it won’t disappoint. Firni, Malpuva, Malpuva pizza, barfis and much more to enjoy.

  • Naan Sandwich and Baida Roti

Located in Bhendi Bazar, Byculla and is among the last few original joints of Bhendi Bazar left inside Bhendi Bazar. Freshly prepared Naan sandwich and Baida roti will the best street food one can have under 100Rs.

Sometimes the best of delicacies can be found in the most humble of food joints. To explore these is what differentiates us from those who seek food only for nourishment.

Pro Tip: Most of the Ramzan special food of MohammedAli Road, Mumbai can be found in the aforementioned food joints. Need not wait for Ramzan to arrive next year.

Food for thought, literally.
